San Juan Island Lavender
Our Lavender Fields | Cultivated with Care on San Juan Island
Nestled in the heart of San Juan Island, WA, our lavender fields are more than just a source of ingredients—they are the soul of Duke Apothecary. We are honored to have taken over an abandoned portion of the renowned lavender fields on San Juan, continuing the legacy of hand-tended, sustainably grown lavender while infusing it with our own dedication to small-batch, botanical self-care.
From the moment each plant begins to bloom, we care for our lavender with patience and intention. Every stem is nurtured by hand, free from pesticides and synthetic chemicals, ensuring that only the purest, most fragrant blossoms make their way into our formulations. Throughout the year, we work in harmony with nature, tending our fields in every season. In spring, we carefully prune each plant to encourage healthy new growth. As summer arrives, the fields hum with bees and butterflies, drawn to the fragrant purple blooms at their peak. When the season shifts to fall and the blooms fade, ladybugs and other beneficial insects arrive, naturally balancing the ecosystem as the plants prepare for winter dormancy. This deep connection to the land allows us to cultivate the most vibrant and aromatic lavender possible.
In the summer, At peak bloom for the best fragrance, we harvest each bundle by hand, preserving the plant’s delicate aromatic and therapeutic properties.
Once harvested, our lavender is either dried for other purposes, or it is distilled fresh in our traditional copper stills, imported from Portugal. These copper stills allow us to extract the most vibrant, high-quality hydrosols and essential oils, capturing the plant’s essence in its purest form. This time-honored distillation method enhances the therapeutic properties of lavender, creating deeply soothing, skin-loving, and aromatherapeutic blends that form the foundation of our hydrosols, toners, body oils, and more.
Our lavender fields are a reflection of our commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and the beauty of slow, intentional creation. Whether woven into a nourishing lotion, misted onto your skin as a calming toner, or infused into an aromatherapy blend, our lavender brings a piece of San Juan Island’s wild beauty into every bottle.
We invite you to experience the care, tradition, and artistry behind every drop—straight from our fields to you.
